Quartz glass has excellent optic spectrum property. It can transmit far UV spectrum, is the best one of all UV transmitting materials, and also transmit visible light and near infra-red spectrum. The user can select any item within the wave-range of 185nm-3500nm. For its excellent properties, such as high temperature proof, low thermal expansion, chemical stability, thermal stability, and similar to ordinary optical glass in bubble, striation, homogeneity, birefringence, optical quartz glass became an essential optical material for high stability optical system under worst conditions.
Thermal expansion coefficient of quartz glass is very small, only 5.5x10-7 per centigrade, that is 1/12--1/20 of the common glass. When heated the sample to 1200 centigrade and immediately throw into cool water three times, couldn't split up. The zero expansion coefficient material from the quartz glass with titanium is used in laser technique, astronomical and frontier techniques.
Quartz glass has a very high dielectric strength but a very low electric conductivity, even at high temperature, high voltage and high frequency, nearly without electric loss in the range of the frequencies applied. Therefore quartz glass is an excellent high temperature dielectric material.
Far ultraviolet optical quartz glass: using wave band from 185nm to 2500nm. There isn't absorbent peak within this range. Transmission more than 80% at 185nm.
Ultraviolet optical quartz glass: using wave band from 220nm to 2500nm. There is absorbent peak at 2730nm.
Infrared optical quartz glass:using wave band from 260nm to 3500nm.
Notices for users: 1. Quartz glass products are valuables, please handle with care. 2. Every quartz products has its maximum used temperature, if exceed the temperature limit in use, there will be devertrification or softened out of shape. 3. When use quartz glass at high temperature, must clean the glass before use. First immerse the glass in 10% hydrofluoric acid or lab used clean liquid, then clean it with high pure water or alcohol. Take glass in glovers (made of thin cotton thread) at work, hand-touching is not allowed. 4. It is no problem to use quartz glass products continuously at high temperature. It's good for the service life and high temperature proof of glass. 5. Quartz glass is a kind of acid materials, when use it at high temperature, should avoid touching with the alkali materials, such as water glass, asbestos, potassium-sodium compounds. Otherwise the crystalline resistance will decrease greatly. |
